Annual Meeting

Partnership for Global Justice
2008 Annual Meeting

February, 2008

Dear Friends,

I am pleased to invite you to the 2008 Annual Meeting of the Partnership for Global Justice entitled, The Spirituality of Politics: Searching for the Global Common Good, An examination of politics at its deepest level of serving the needs of peoples and earth as we choose leaders for the 21st century. April 24-26, 2008 at Xavier Center, Convent Station, New Jersey.

I am excited to present an outstanding program! In the keynote sessions we are fortunate to have Barbara Wall, PhD of Villanova University who focuses on political theory and Catholic Social Teaching. Sister Pat Siemen, OP, JD who currently serves as the Director of the Center for Earth Jurisprudence, a collaborative initiative co-sponsored by Barry and St. Thomas Universities.

We are privileged to give the 5th Annual Justice Award to Dave Robinson and Pax Christi USA. Mr. Robinson is the Executive Director of Pax Christi USA and represents Pax Christi with us during our meeting days. Pax Christi USA strives to create a world that reflects the Peace of Christ by exploring, articulating and witnessing to the call of Christian nonviolence.

We will also meet a representative at the US Mission to the United Nations as well as have a panel at the United Nations who will also address the topic of Spirituality of Politics from their own point of view. Among the panelists is Archbishop Celestino Migliore who is the Permanent Representative of the Holy See to the United Nations.

This event provides the opportunity for the members of our Partnership to reflect together on their charism, mission and ministries in service to the global community. We have been exploring the implications of the times in which we find ourselves and the strategies necessary for global systemic change.

As members of the Partnership for Global Justice, we highly recommend that each congregation/associate send at least two members to the annual meeting. Your presence is a gift to the entire group. In these changing times, our justice networks and our partnerships with one another can be enhanced in this forum. Our hope is that this gathering will provide an opportunity to develop new strategies for justice and world order both formally and informally. Would you be so kind as to share this information with those you think might be interested in attending our meeting?

Enclosed, please find the program brochure and registration materials. If you have any questions about the program or arrangements in New York, please do not hesitate to contact me at 212-682-6481 or Lsiers6720@aol.com.

Thank you for your continued interest and for sharing the information about this meeting with others. I look forward to seeing you in April.

Sincerely,

Lucianne Siers, OP
Director

The Spirituality of Politics:
Searching for the Global Common Good

An examination of politics at its deepest level of serving the needs of peoples and earth as we choose
This meeting will gather members of the Partnership for Global Justice and Associates and those whoa re interested in discussing the crisis of our current political system so that we can bring our collective voices to the global agenda; to be a voice for the disenfranchised as the new world order emerges; to act on our vision statements and chapter enactments calling us to collaboration and action for global systemic change. In particular, this we will focus on the needs of those who do not have a voice in the way politics is enacted in our society today. Our purpose ingathering together is so that our voice is firmly established in our primary vowed and Christian commitments reaching out to those in need.

Objectives

-to recognize the needs of earth as we come to recognize the crisis of global warming
